What Dubai Marina is
Dubai Marina is a waterfront district built around a long artificial canal that loops inland from the sea, lined on both sides by residential towers. The canal is full of yachts and water taxis, and a promenade runs around the whole of it at the water’s edge.
On its seaward side the Marina meets Jumeirah Beach Residence and the public beach, and across the water sit Bluewaters and Palm Jumeirah. Inland, it backs onto Sheikh Zayed Road and the business districts beside it.
It is one of the busiest parts of the city to live in and to visit, and it feels like it: restaurants and cafés along the promenade, people out walking well into the night, and a skyline that is lit up from end to end after dark.
Who it suits
It suits anyone who wants the beach and a lively place to come back to in the same trip. The sand is a walk from most of the district, and in the evening everything you need is on the promenade rather than a drive away.
It suits couples and groups of friends particularly well, and families who want the beach without the quiet of a resort. There is always somewhere to eat, something going on and somewhere to walk to.
It suits longer stays, because the apartments are residential homes with full kitchens and laundry, and the district has its own supermarkets, pharmacies and gyms. People live here year round, and a month in the Marina feels like living in the city rather than holidaying in it.
It suits less well anyone after peace and quiet. The Marina is busy, and at weekends the promenade and the roads around it are busier still. If the point of the trip is calm, the Palm or a quieter district inland will be a better fit.
Getting around
The Marina is one of the best-connected districts in Dubai. The Dubai Metro’s Red Line runs along its inland edge, the Dubai Tram loops through the district itself, and the tram connects to the monorail that runs out along Palm Jumeirah.
Taxis and ride-hailing are everywhere, and water taxis cross the canal. The promenade is walkable all the way round, and so is the beach, which makes the Marina one of the few places in Dubai where a car is genuinely optional.
Downtown, the older districts and the airport are all further away, on the other side of the city. The metro reaches them without changing lines, and by road they are a straightforward drive along Sheikh Zayed Road outside the rush hours.
What the homes are like
Almost every home in the Marina is an apartment in a residential tower, many of them high-rise. Most buildings have a pool and a gym for residents, and many have views over the canal, the sea or both.
The towers vary a great deal in age. Some were among the first built in the district and some are new, and the difference shows in the finish and the facilities more than in the location. What we control is the standard each home is kept to between stays.
fäm Living has a small number of homes in Dubai Marina, so what is available changes quickly with the dates. Put your dates in to see what is free, and for busy weeks in winter it is worth looking early.
When to come
Dubai’s comfortable months run from about November to March, and that is when the Marina is at its best: the promenade is pleasant all day, the beach is full, and eating outside in the evening is the whole point. It is also when prices are highest.
In summer the heat moves life indoors and into the late evening, and the promenade comes alive after dark rather than during the day. Rates fall to match, which makes a longer summer stay considerably better value.
What staying with fäm Living is like
Every home is licensed with Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism and registered on the Holiday Homes system, the same as everywhere else we operate.
Check-in is in person, by our team here in Dubai, and the same cleaning standard applies between every stay, however long it is.
Booking direct means the nightly rate and the cleaning fee and nothing on top. The price quoted is for your actual dates, including the reduction on a longer stay.
Questions
Staying in Dubai Marina
- Is Dubai Marina a good place to stay?
- It is one of the best choices in Dubai if you want the beach and a lively place to walk around in the evening. It is busy rather than quiet, and Downtown and the older districts are on the far side of the city.
- Is Dubai Marina close to the beach?
- Yes. The Marina meets Jumeirah Beach Residence on its seaward side, and the public beach there is a walk from most of the district. Bluewaters and Palm Jumeirah are just across the water.
- How do you get around Dubai Marina without a car?
- Easily. The metro’s Red Line runs along the Marina’s inland edge, the tram loops through the district, water taxis cross the canal, and the promenade and beach are walkable. Taxis and ride-hailing are always close by.
- Dubai Marina or Downtown Dubai — which is better to stay in?
- The Marina is better for the beach, the waterfront and evenings out on foot. Downtown is better for the city’s best-known landmarks and shopping. They are on opposite sides of Dubai, linked by the metro’s Red Line.
- Can I book a Dubai Marina apartment for a month or longer?
- Yes. The apartments are residential homes with full kitchens and laundry, and longer stays are priced differently — add your dates and the price shown is for that stay. We have a small number of homes here, so look early.
