What JLT is
JLT is a mixed district of residential and office towers arranged in clusters around a series of artificial lakes. It sits on the inland side of Sheikh Zayed Road, directly opposite Dubai Marina, and it is home to the DMCC free zone, which is why so many companies have offices here.
The lakes and the walkways around them are what give JLT its character. At ground level, each cluster has cafés, restaurants, supermarkets and services, and the paths around the water connect them. It is busier than a purely residential district on weekdays and calmer than the Marina in the evenings.
For a visitor it offers most of what the Marina offers, from the other side of the road, at a lower cost.
Who it suits
It suits business travellers, particularly anyone working in the free zone or in the offices of the Marina and Media City side of Dubai. You can live and work within the same district.
It suits anyone who wants the beach and the Marina’s evenings without paying Marina prices. The Marina is across the road, and the beach at JBR beyond it is within easy reach.
It suits longer stays. The apartments are residential, the district has its own supermarkets, pharmacies, gyms and clinics, and the lakeside paths make it a pleasant place to settle into for a month.
It suits less well anyone after a resort feel. JLT is a working district of towers, and it looks and sounds like one during the week.
Getting around
JLT is one of the better-connected districts in Dubai. The metro’s Red Line runs along Sheikh Zayed Road on its edge, with stations serving the district, and from there the line runs the length of the city to Downtown and the airport.
The Dubai Tram runs through the Marina and JBR across the road, and taxis and ride-hailing are constant. Within JLT you can walk between clusters along the lake paths, which in the cooler months is the easiest way around.
Crossing to the Marina on foot is possible via the metro footbridges. Downtown and the older districts are on the other side of the city, a straightforward metro ride or drive outside the rush hours.
What the apartments are like
Almost everything in JLT is an apartment in a high-rise tower. Many have views over the lakes, and the higher floors in some towers look across to the Marina skyline, the Palm or the sea.
They are residential homes rather than hotel rooms: a full kitchen, laundry in the apartment, and a living room you can use. Most towers have a pool and a gym, and guests in our homes use them as residents do.
The towers vary in age and finish, from the district’s early buildings to more recent ones. What is free changes with the dates, so the reliable answer is to search your dates and see.
When to come
Dubai’s comfortable months run from about November to March, and that is when the lake paths, the outdoor cafés and the beach across the road are at their best. It is also the busiest and most expensive season.
In summer the heat moves life indoors, and the metro and the air-conditioned towers carry the day. Rates fall to match, and for a longer working stay the summer is better value.
What staying with fäm Living is like
Our JLT homes are licensed with Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism and listed on the Holiday Homes system, as all of our homes are. That licence is what separates a legal holiday let from an informal one.
Our Dubai team checks you in in person, and every home is cleaned to the same standard before each guest arrives. If something needs attention while you are there, a local team handles it.
Booking here means the nightly rate plus the cleaning fee, with no platform fee added. Your quote reflects your actual dates, including the lower nightly rate that comes with a longer stay.
